When Are Air Conditioning Repairs Necessary?

We know that there are a lot of optimists out there, and we applaud a cheery outlook on life. There are times when optimism can go way too far, though. For instance, when a homeowner believes that his or her air conditioner is always going to be reliable. While scheduling routine maintenance and investing in great equipment from trusted manufacturers will help you to enjoy the most dependable performance possible from your AC, the fact remains that no system is perfect. At some point, you’ll find yourself in need of air conditioning repairs.

The key to minimizing the risk of serious damage to your system is to schedule repairs promptly. You certainly don’t want to wait until your air conditioner breaks down entirely before you dial our number to schedule repairs. Of course, you also don’t want to be calling out repair technicians for no reason. That is why we’ve put this post together. Keep the following tips in mind, and let us know if you suspect the need for air conditioning repairs in all DFW metroplex.

Is Your Air Conditioner Making Strange Sounds?

That may not, ahem, sound too alarming, but this is actually one very common warning sign that trouble is brewing with an air conditioning system. Now, air conditioners don’t really work silently. You may hear the compressor kick on or air being forced through ductwork, depending upon the layout of your home. However, you as the homeowner should also know the difference between normal sounds of operation and problematic sounds.

Screeching, grinding, or clanging sounds, for instance, should be taken seriously. Loose components, insufficient lubrication, worn belts—all of these issues can lead to odd operating sounds, and may result in serious damage to the system if left unaddressed. Just because your AC is cycling on and off properly doesn’t mean that it is in peak working condition!

Is Your Air Conditioner Blowing Warm Air?

This is a very obvious sign of trouble. Aside from a total breakdown, an AC that is blowing warm air is probably the most likely issue that will drive a customer to actually schedule service. Again, there are a few reasons why this may be happening.

You could have a leak in your air ducts, for instance, and heat could be entering through that leak. If the issue is widespread throughout the house, however, you could also be dealing with a refrigerant leak. In this case, you could seriously damage your system if you continue to run it without having the leak sealed and the refrigerant recharged. Do not make this mistake.

Is Your Air Conditioner Costing Too Much to Run?

If you’ve had your AC for some time, then you probably have a general sense of how much it costs you to cool your home effectively throughout the season. This is going to vary somewhat, of course. After all, you’ll be using your AC more at certain times than others. That doesn’t mean that you should ignore inexplicable spikes in cooling costs,  though.

If your system is costing much more to cool your home than normal, that likely means that it has a problem in need of repairs.  The last thing that you want to do is to be shelling out more money for comfort while also doing further damage to your system. If your bills and usage aren’t adding up,  let us know right away.
